Parent To Parent
The “Parent to Parent” program aims to connect parents who have experienced the IEP process with parents who are going through the IEP process for the first time. This allows first-time parents to receive both emotional support and information regarding what to expect from IEP meetings from parents who have had first-hand experience with the process.
The role of parents in the IEP process is crucial – not only does a child’s parent act as an equal member of the IEP team alongside educators and school administrators, but parents also know their own child, and their child’s needs, better than anyone else. Since parents attend all IEP meetings throughout the schooling of their child, they also act as a form of continuity throughout the IEP process. They monitor the progress of their child and determine whether the initial IEP and any future modifications are ensuring their child’s continued academic progress. Although the role of the parent in the IEP process is incredibly significant, it can also be quite daunting and confusing for many first-time parents. By pairing parents who are going through the IEP process for the first time with parents who have been through the process before, parents going through the IEP process for the first time can not only gain information regarding what to expect at their own child’s IEP meetings, but can also find support and understanding from a parent who knows what they are going through.
If you are a parent who has been through the IEP process and would like to volunteer to be paired with a parent going through the process for the first time, or if you are a parent going through the IEP process for the first time and would like to be paired with a parent who has been through the process before, please leave your information below and we will contact you!
